MiniMonsters for Schools

10% of all school bookings in January & February 2012

A MiniMonsters roadshow is an exciting addition to the school day and can take place in the school hall or move from classroom to classroom.  I offer a range of sessions to enhance the curriculum, including climate change sessions.  Each session is ideally aimed at a group size of one class (up to approx 30 children).  All sessions are flexible to suit your school's specific needs.  Upon booking, written confirmation (email or paper) is sent including an invoice and health and safety guidelines.

Creepy Crawly Roadshow– All ages

This live animal encounter can be adapted for all audiences, from early years through to university students.  Children and adults have the opportunity to learn about and handle a range of ‘creepy crawly’ creatures, including invertebrates (e.g. giant snails, insects, spiders, millipedes) and reptiles (snakes or lizards).  No child is ever asked to handle any animal that he/she is not comfortable with.

A standard session lasts for 50 minutes and can be themed on a wide range of topics, including habitats, minibeasts, rainforests, deserts, conservation/endangered species, diet, behaviour, communication or classification.  Session times can be adapted to fit your timetable and school size.

Big Foot  - Key Stages 3+

Climate change can seem overwhelming for both children and adults, but it is an issue that must be addressed.  Big Foot delves into the science and realities of climate change, whilst remaining positive and interactive.  The session lasts for approximately one hour and covers themes such as greenhouse gas emissions, global warming, energy use, footprints, peak oil and the roles of Minority/Majority worlds with hands on activities and group discussion/decision making.  An inspiring session with lots of practical ideas about action individuals, schools and communities can take (from someone who is out there and doing it!).

Mini Big Foot - Key Stage 2

Do you stomp or do you tiptoe?  The Mini Big Foot session is an age appropriate workshop on climate change and related issues.  We cover at the science of climate change as well as some of the actions that we can take at home and school.  Includes a variety of activities to do with transport, energy, waste, food, 'stuff' and the relative footprints of different lifestyles around the world.  An ideal session to kick-start action or enhance current activities at school (also suitable for groups & libraries).

Animals and our world - Key Stage 1

A session added by popular demand combining a normal animal encounter with specific discussion about looking after our environment and caring for animals.  The session is incorporates the 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle) and other eco-topics using early years friendly language and concepts.

Ethical Enterprise – Key Stage 3 & above

Originally developed for National Enterprise Week.  During the 50 minute session, we explore the ups and downs of self employment, as well as meeting some of the animals.  The session can be themed or ‘student led’ using MiniMonsters as a real life example to discuss business start up, work/life balance, sustainability, marketing, finances, administration… the list is endless.   Students leave feeling inspired and imagining the many possibilities that their futures hold.
