Equine Clicker Training Would you like ... .... to have more fun with your horse? .... for your horse to have more fun with you? .... to work with a horse that is eager to learn? .... to feel safe and confident? I am now able to offer lessons, clinics and demonstrations in clicker training for horses and their owners across Norfolk and Suffolk.
Clicker training is a highly effective and positive method of animal training, developed for horses by Alexandra Kurland. I had heard of clicker training during my animal behaviour degree, but had incorrectly assumed that it was only for teaching 'circus tricks' and dog training. During a biomechanics clinic at Ashen Equestrian Centre with Becky Chapman, I saw clicker training being used for ridden schooling and it suddenly dawned on me how powerful and wide-ranging its uses could be. I have now been studying and practising clicker training with horses for the last three years and attend annual training with Alexandra Kurland on her visits to the UK. It has changed my entire approach to working with horses from a dominance based system to one where the horse takes an active part in the learning process. I am passionate about using my skills as a presenter and teacher to share this important method and mindset with others (and am also enrolled to train in TAGteach in early 2012 to further develop my teaching skills). Clicker training can be learnt by children and adults, horses and ponies! Review from a Groundwork and Clicker Training Demo with Sandi (my 4yo mare) at a livery stables in Norfolk I am really pleased with how brilliant the day was. Both Sandi & Kate were brilliant, highly recommend the pair. Kate's delivery and open minded views made for excellent listening and had everyone engrossed throughout the day. Thank you. Claire M.
I am a BHSPT and have backed, schooled and competed a range of horses over the last 20+ years, with a particular involvement in the Haflinger breed. I am currently on the national committee for the Haflinger Society of Great Britain. Over the last year, I have also started to study Straightness Training and classical horsemanship (inhand and ridden). Photos feature my 4yo Haflinger mare Sandi (in the ridden photo, she has only been backed a few months).
